Please explain the etymology of tuck, why it means pleat?

To tuck means to put something underneath something else. So, for instance, you might tuck a newspaper or your umbrella underneath your arm if you are also carrying other things. In sewing, in means to fold over a piece of fabric so that some of the fabric is tucked beneath the top piece of fabric. Then when you stitch the fabric, it forms a pleat. The word "pleat" is more commonly used for skirts and trousers. The word "tuck" is used more often for blouses or the bodice on a dress.
