Question on etymology?

Let's not confuse "germanic" with "german". I'm not sure what Old English is, but I do know that there was a germanic language spoken in England before 1066. I don't think there was anything called "german" at that time - Luther hadn't translated the bible yet, so there probably were some proto-german dialects
